The RoHS Directive (the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment) bans from the EU market new electrical and electronic equipment with levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants which exceed the directive's levels.
RoHS Directive and the UK RoHS regulations came into force on 1 July 2006. The National Weights and Measures Laboratory (NWML) are the UK RoHS enforcement body.
Manufacturers, importers and retailers must ensure that their products, and their components, comply with the requirements of the RoHS Directive.
How Scientifics can help
Scientifics consultancy service offers a total solution. The calibrated EDAX system is capable of screening samples for all of the elements required under the RoHS Directive as approved by the EU. If samples fail for any of these elements, Scientifics can carry out further confirmation by ICP-OES, Colourmetric and High Resolution GC.
